Kidnapped Iranian released in Afghanistan

'The Iranian citizen, who was kidnapped 10 days ago, was set free through a security operation in Herat Province,' Jilani Farhad, the spokesman of general governor office in Herat, told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

One kidnapper was killed and another one was arrested while the case is under investigation, he said.

The identity of the kidnapped Iranian citizen has not been released by Afghan security officials, according to Farhad.

Financially-motivated kidnapping is prevalent in Afghanistan. In most cases, the news of the incident does not get public for the fear that the kidnapped person would be killed.

Iran's Consulate General in Herat had no immediate comments on the issue.
