Iraqi figure supports Iran’s proposal for non-aggression pact

Iran’s proposal to leaders of the Persian Gulf states to sign a non-aggression pact is a good idea for resolution of regional problems, former Iraqi prime minister Ayad Aallawi said.

Ayad Allawi who is also head of the al-Wataniya (National Coalition) party made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

The Iraqi official said that undermining Iran will lead to weakening of the whole region and the world.

He expressed its support for Iran's proposal, adding that the people of region themselves should resolve the problems.

The regional countries should be able to defend themselves without reliance on foreign support, the Iraqi political figure added.

He described his recent meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as fruitful, noting that all sides should do their best to find a solution to regional problems and de-escalate tensions.
