Iranian Human rights not an imported issue

Mohammad Javad Larijani made the remarks Sunday night in a meeting with President of the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium Siegfried Bracke.

During the meeting, both sides discussed bilateral human rights issues in two fields including democracy of liberal secular systems and democracy based on Islamic rationality.

Freedom of speech, lack of discrimination in law, considering the unlawful arrests as illegal, the right to have access to lawyer, executions, narcotics and issues related to retaliation were among other topics discussed in the meeting.

Larijani expressed concern over spread of Islamophobia in the West, saying that it is not even justified with the norms of Western democracy.

He said he is hopeful that the meeting would provide a better image of Iran's legal and judicial system and its human rights situation as well.

Meanwhile, the Belgian official said that Brussels respects Islam and Muslims as different religions are living together in Belgium.

He called for continuation of negotiations between the Iranian and Belgian officials in order to become more familiar with the countries' legal and human rights systems.
