Iran urges world to meet obligation to Rohingya Muslims

'With each passing day, the critical situation of Rohingya Muslisms becomes more complicated, the suffers of the refugees increases, and the responsibility of countries and international organizations becomes heavier,' Bahram Qasemi said.

Widespread violence against the Muslim community in Myanmar began in August. The heavy-handed suppression of the ethnic minority has forced more than 500,000Rohingya Muslims to flee to the neighboring Bangladesh.

Hundreds of Muslims have been killed in the recent wave of violence in Myanmar, with satellite images showing that 214 villages have been totally destroyed.

The Myanmar government has been ignorant to the global warnings and requests by international organizations and world public opinion on stopping the violations against the minority community in the country.

'After all, the opportunity for stopping the crisis and compensating the damages is getting lost. The complicated, dire situation can turn into one of the worst humanitarian crises of the contemporary age,' the spokesman warned.

Despite the warnings, alarms and requests by countries, international organizations, global figures and public opinion, the Myanmar's government has turned a deaf ear to the world demands, which is unacceptable, Qasemi said.

Pointing to Iran's efforts in resolving the crisis and relieving the sufferings of Myanmarian displaced people, he said that the international community should continue its measures more seriously for stopping the trend of Rohingya Muslims expulsion and sending emergency humanitarian aids to them.
