Iran top nuclear official to discuss JCPOA in Oslo Forum

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali-Akbar Salehi referred to his scheduled meetings with the UN secretary-general, the Norway prime minister and foreign minister and some other high-ranking officials on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum and said that he will discuss the JCPOA with them.

The Oslo Forum is a series of retreats for international conflict mediators, high-level decision-makers, and other peace process actors. It provides a discreet and informal space to reflect on current mediation practice, collaborate across institutional and conceptual divides and advance negotiations. From a modest gathering of mediators in 2003, the Oslo Forum has grown to become the pre-eminent retreat in the field of international peacemaking.

Certainly, the JCPOA issue will be raised during our talks and we will clearly and transparently speak about Iran's stance regarding the issue, Salehi said.

He said that he would try his best to defend Iran's national interests.

US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington would pull out of the Iran nuclear deal and reinstate nuclear sanctions on Iran.

This is while most world powers, including Russia, China, and the European Union have repeatedly stressed that keeping the deal is in the interest of the world peace and security.
