Iran taking major steps in improving regional conditions: Azeri journalist

'Iran is one of the biggest countries in the region and its positive steps undoubtedly have had crucial effect in improving regional conditions,' Vusala Mahirgizi said talking to IRNA reporters on the sidelines of the 23rd Press Exhibition underway in Tehran.

'Iran and Azerbaijan enjoy long-standing cooperation and both countries' presidents are trying to develop relations,' she added.

Mahirgizi pointed to Iran-Azerbaijan-Russia upcoming trilateral meeting as indicating Iran's active role in the region.

In response to a question on US President Donald Trump's recent anti-Iran remarks, she said, 'I believe that Trump should respect other countries' rights.'

'Azerbaijan is always after peace and security in the region,' Mahirgizi added.

'Iran and Azerbaijan enjoy good potentials in economic cooperation and it's subject to increase,' she said commenting on the future of economic cooperation between the two countries.

'Both countries can have good cooperation in the tourism field,' she noted.

Responding to a question on media cooperation between IRNA and APA, she said, 'Several meetings have been held between two agencies in Baku.'

IRNA is the most important news agency in Iran, she said expressing APA's readiness to develop media cooperation such as media exchanges between the two agencies.

Mahirgizi went on to say that today media play important role in many countries. 'Physical wars have been substituted by soft wars,' she noted.

The 23rd Press Exhibition kicked off on October 28 here in Imam Khomeini Mosalla; it will last until November 3.
