Iran, Syria to continue counter-terrorism cooperation

Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani made the remarks here on Tuesday during a meeting with the visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem.

Iran will spare no effort to help Syria and provide the country with the needed consultations during reconstruction era, just the way it stood by the Syrian government and nation during war times against terrorism, Shamkhani said.

He hailed the efforts by the Syrian government to pave the way for people's participation in the committee tasked with revising the country’s Constitutional Law and blamed the Western countries for hampering political efforts in Syria “merely to support the continuation of the crisis in the country.”

Shamkhani warned that the joint enemies of the Muslim world, the US and the Zionist regime in particular, are trying to destroy the major interests of Islamic countries through creating conflict and sowing discord among them.

Condemning the continued aggression of the Zionist regime against Syria and Resistance forces, Shamkhani said that in case such measures are continued, the required deterrent measures will be taken and they will receive such a strong response that will be a lesson for the “lying and criminal leaders of Israel.”

The Syrian foreign minister, for his part, said that the Syrian government will seriously continue with the talks with unarmed opposition groups that are willing to keep the integrity of the country.

Hailing Iran’s all-out support for the Syrian government and nation, Al-Muallem said that achieving sustainable peace and security in the region relies on the change of approach of certain countries in support for terrorism and resorting to real fight with the remaining elements of Al-Nusrah Front terrorists and other terrorist groups linked with them.

He noted that the Iranian military advisors are present in Syria upon request by the Syrian government in order to empower the armed forces of the country in the fight with terrorism.

The Syrian government feels duty-bound to ensure the security of the Iranian military advisors present in the Syrian soil, al-Muallem said. 9341**
