Iran seeks peace in region: Envoy in Spain

Iran has been seeking peace in the region since the occupation of Afghanistan by the Russians and the Americans at the turn of 1980s, said Iranian Ambassador to Spain Hassan Qashqavi during a conference at the Journalism Faculty of Complutense University of Madrid.

The Iranian envoy went on to highlight Iran’s role in peace-making efforts in Iraq, Syria and Yemen. “War, killing and destruction that Middle Eastern people are facing is the result of destructive policies and action of the US authorities,” Qashqavi added, stressing that “consequences of such policies have involved Europe as well”.

Head of the Iranian mission in Spain said his country had proposed four points to resolve the situation in Yemen well before the Stockholm talks. However, 'Iran has supported those negotiations as well,” Qashqavi noted.

The Iranian highest representative in the European country stressed that the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal of 2015 and reimposition of unilateral sanctions impeded money transfer and humanitarian trade. “We saw this during the floods when the international monetary funds could not be transferred to those in need,” he emphasized.
