
Earlier, Rahmani-Movahhed, a senior expert on politics, served as an advisor to the foreign minister.
Under Rouhani’s first government, he held various positions including deputy head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization when he made great efforts to promote local and foreign tourism.
At that time the Islamic Republic was for the first time selected among the top 50 countries of the world in terms of attracting foreign tourists.
Earlier, he also served in various capacities including Iran’s ambassador to New Zealand, deputy head of Foreign Ministry’s Education and Research Center, Iran’s consulate general in Shanghai and chairman of secretariat of Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Rahmani-Movahhed is to replace Reza Nazar-Ahari who served as Iran’s envoy as of 2011.
