Iran, Pakistan call for broadening of defense cooperation

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami in a phone call congratulated his Pakistani counterpart Pervez Khattak on his appointment as the new defense minister of Pakistan.

He expressed the hope that the new government in Pakistan and the political will of the two countries' leaders will cover the deficiencies of the relations over the past years.

He also said that Pakistan as an important Muslim country can play a significant role in regional developments.

'The current crises in the region and Muslim countries do not have military solutions, and should be solved only through dialogue and political ways,' he said.

The Iranian minister also highlighted the economic, trade and defense capacity of the two countries, and called for development of mutual cooperation and regional peace and stability.

Emphasizing the necessity of strengthening bilateral relations, the Pakistani minister, for his part, expressed hope that Tehran-Islamabad cooperation will be boosted in various spheres.
