Iran official: Tehran, Baku after peace, stability of region

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) upon his arrival in Baku, Vaezi said the aim of his visit to Azerbaijan was to hold talks on regional issues and bilateral relations.

'We are living a region where special conditions prevail. Recently two important elections were held in Iraq and Lebanon. There are instability and unrest in some countries of the region which necessitate consultations between Iran and Azerbaijan as two countries seeking peace and stability of the region,' he said.

Pointing to close relations between Tehran and Baku, Vaezi said the presidents of the two countries have met 12 times over the past five years and there have been around 100 meetings between high ranking officials of Iran and Azerbaijan.

H e said during his stay here, he would follow up the implementation of agreements reached between the two presidents and explore ways of lifting any possible impediments to their execution.

Vaezi said during his forthcoming meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, he would brief him on Iran's regional policies and its stands on the 2015 nuclear deal with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

During his two day visit to Azerbaijan, Vaezi is scheduled to meet with the Azeri president, prime minister and minister of economy.
