Iran minister in Baku to talk on defense issues

'There are considerable capacities for Tehran-Baku defense and military cooperation,' Brigadier General Amir Hatami told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) upon arrival in this Azeri capital.

Hatami, who is in Baku at the invitation of his Azeri counterpart Zakir Hasanov, said the two neighboring nations are determined to develop defense relations.

During the two-day stay of General Hatami and his military delegation in Baku, regional and bilateral questions will be reviewed.

As the Iranian defense minister noted, he is due to hold talks with the top Azeri officials including President Ilham Aliyev, defense minister and prime minister.

About Iran-Azerbaijan ties, General Hatami said the two enjoy long-lasting relations, and his visit to Baku is taking place with the purpose of strengthening bilateral cooperation and regional security and stability.

He also expressed hope that his travel to Azerbaijan would lead to signing good agreements and finalizing the previous deals.
