The second hearing of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) was held on Wednesday to deal with cases of violation of Treaty of Amity as well as economic and consular ties between Iran and the US.
Rejecting US claim that ICJ lacks authority to deal with the issue, Allen Pall said that it is the main judicial body of the United Nations that settles the disputes between member states according to the international law.
He also opined that the two countries’ dispute regarding Treaty of Amity has direct link with the US administration’s decision to withdraw form the JCPOA on May 8, 2018.
Meanwhile, Iran’s representative expressed strong protest to some accusations leveled against Iran by the US lawyers as well as their false claims about terrorism, defense missile program and destabilizing acts in the region, saying that the issues fall outside the ICJ’s jurisdicion.
Mohsen Mohebbi further noted that re-imposing sanctions following US May 8 decisions has brought about adverse consequences, affecting the Iranian people and economy.
He said that Iran has referred the case to ICJ to lift US sanctions and pave the way for doing trades which have been agreed upon earlier.
US President Donald Trump on May 8 declared that Washington unilaterally pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal which was signed by Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany.
Tehran says the measure violates Treaty of Amity, Economic Relations and Consular Rights between the two countries that was signed in 1955.
The treaty comprising an introduction and 23 articles was signed in Tehran and ratified by the then Iranian government. The government was permitted to exchange the related documents, following ratification by the National Consultative Assembly.
On the third day of the court hearing for Iran's complaint about US sanctions in the International Court of Justice in the Hague, the Iranian lawyers insisted Washington has no justifications for its claims.
At the third oral hearing, Professor Allen Pall, the French lawyer of the Iranian delegation emphasized the destructive intentions of the US statesmen against the Iranian economy and people and explained the legal bases of Iran's complaint and the refusal of the US delegation to cite the 1955 Treaty of Amity.
