Iran: Infrastructure for multi-thousand SWUs ready

Referring to the latest order by the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Ali-Akbar Salehi said that AEOI has begun its infrastructure activities within the framework of country's Safeguards commitments since the beginning of the 2nd term in office of President Hassan Rouhani.

'The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran should have necessary preparedness and pave the ground speedily for achieving 190,000 SWUs (separative work units) enrichment within framework of the JCPOA for the time being,' the Supreme Leader said on Monday.

Salehi, who was speaking at a press conference, emphasized that Iran will remain committed to the nuclear deal and is going to launch and accelerate some activities within the agreement framework.

Iran's Supreme Leader has always insisted that whenever Iran signs a deal, it will surely remain committed to it, Salehi said.

'Remaining committed to our obligations has been an ethical, religious and political principle, and it has also been observed by AEOI,' he said.

The Iranian official said that the country has been in full compliance with Safeguards agreement even before signing the nuclear deal.

'After signing the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Additional Protocol and the JCPOA consideration were added to Iran's obligations,' he noted.

Explaining the second principle of AEOI, he said, 'Iran's nuclear activities, as it has repeatedly been declared, particularly by senior officials, will be peaceful.'

'The basis of the peaceful programs is the Fatwa issued by the Supreme Leader, that explicitly says any proliferation, accumulation and use of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction is banned by religion,' Salehi said.

AEOI, with regard to the importance of the nuclear industry to the country, as it has been stipulated in the statute of the organization, is pursuing two major goals—supplying nuclear electricity and fuel for nuclear power plants, he said on the third principle.

Referring to remarks of Iran's Supreme Leader on Monday, Salehi said that another principle to be taken into consideration, is that the simultaneity of sanctions and the JCPOA is impossible.
