The meeting between the two foreign ministers took place on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Zarif is a part of a high ranking delegation accompanying President Hassan Rouhani in his visit to New York to participate in the UN General Assembly meeting.

Earlier in the day, Zarif took part in a meeting of 4+1 Group and then, accompanied by the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini read out the G4+1 statement in support of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

The Iranian foreign minister also had a separate meeting with his Omani counterpart.
