In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA,) former professor of international relations and political science at University of Punjab Dr. Rashid Ahmad Khan said Iran tries to extend all kinds of cooperation to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the world and the region.
“This is true that certain forces especially the United States bent upon destabilizing the Muslim world, they started the process in 2003 in Iraq which is now being spread to some other countries of the Arab world and they are also tried to undermine political stability in Iran,” he said.
The analyst viewed that even now they are acting on the same agenda and that is why the US is not making serious efforts to resolve the Afghan issue and adopt a correct approach which is presented by the regional countries like Iran, China and Russia.
Dr. Rashid Ahmad Khan noted that Iran has never supported extremists, terrorists’ ideology or the organizations or the groups who follow this ideology rather Iran tries to extend all kinds of cooperation to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the world and the region.
He said that Iran has suggested expelling the foreign forces from Afghanistan because that is the root cause of conflict in Afghanistan and many countries agree with the approach of Iran.
The analyst expressing his views said unfortunately Saudi Arabia has always been under the influence of the United States which is the real problem. “Certain elements in the US are trying to undermine the historical role of Iran in the region,” he pointed out.
“They are trying to influence the minds of Saudi Arabians against the power of Iran, but Saudi Arabia should know that Iran is a peaceful country and has never invaded neighboring countries or try to commit aggression against other countries rather Iran has adopted very moderate and very conciliatory and cooperative foreign policy towards the neighboring countries and the countries of the Persian Gulf,” Dr. Rashid Ahmad Khan said.
He added terrorism is a real threat to the whole world no doubt about that but approaches to fight terrorism varies from country to country.
“The US fights only those terrorists that are challenging their interests and if terrorists threaten the interests of other countries, they do not pay any attention to that,” said the professor.
He went on to say that the US is assisting the Zionist terrorism against Iran, Pakistan, Lebanon, Palestine and other Muslim nations. He advised the US to stop pursuing hegemonic policies and respect the sovereignties of other countries in the world.
