“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the inhumane and brutal attack on two mosques in Christ Church, New Zealand,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Friday.
He urged the New Zealand government to detect the perpetrators of the “racist action” and bring them to justice “without any consideration”.
At least 49 people have been killed so far, and 20 seriously injured, after gunmen opened fire at two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch on Friday when hundreds of Muslims had gathered to say their prayers.
“Any terrorist act, anywhere in the world, carried out by anybody under any motive, must be condemned by all the countries”, Qasemi added, calling on “governments not to allow racist and Islamophobic movements to disrupt the security of citizens.”
New Zealand police say they have arrested three men and one woman in connection with the attack. One man has already been charged with murder.
