Iran, Britain to start new round of talks

According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, economic cooperation following US exit from JCPOA and financial and monetary mechanisms between the two countries despite US sanctions are major topics of the talks.

The two sides are also scheduled to discuss the latest regional developments during the meeting where Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi is to chair the Iranian side.

Burt’s trip to Iran is the first by the British minister of state since US withdrawal from the JCPOA. His visit coincides with EU efforts to salvage Iran nuclear deal.

Prior to his trip to Tehran, Burt said in a statement, “Until the time Iran remains committed to its side under the deal, we will also live up to the deal, as we believe that this is the best way to guarantee a safe and calm future for the region.”

Meanwhile, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on Friday reiterated EU’s support for Iran nuclear deal known as JCPOA.

Despite US sanctions, EU will continue cooperation with Iran to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal, she stressed.

Recalling the IAEA’s 12th report on Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA, Mogherini said that the report indicates well that the county has adhered to its commitments under the deal.

This is a significant news for the EU and international community, she said.
