Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh, said that appointing a special rapporteur for Iran by approving the resolution proposed by a certain country is based on an “unfair, unjustifiable and dishonest” plan by a few governments to confront the Iranian nation.
UN Human Rights Council ratified a resolution earlier today which extends the mission of its special rapporteur on human rights conditions in Iran.
The resolution was approved while more than a half of the 47 member states of the Council either voted against the resolution or abstained.
Such resolutions has been proposed and approved by such countries as Sweden, the UK and some other few countries over the past few years.
“It is not by accident that governments that have a long record of violating human rights law and international humanitarian law, including those who, with dispatching arms and active support for terrorism and extremist violation, have driven our region to destruction and devastation are the main sponsors of this resolution,” Baghaei Hamaneh said.
He said that the resolution is ratified while its initiators are ignoring the organized brutalities by their allies in the region and have kept silent against the anti-humane and illegal sanctions by the United States which violates the human rights at a large scale.
