IAEA’s new report exposes US false claims: Iran envoy to IAEA

Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi made the remarks in a statement released after the IAEA published its latest review on Iran’s commitment to the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on Monday.

“The Agency continues to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material at the nuclear facilities and locations outside facilities where nuclear material is customarily used (LOFs) declared by Iran under its Safeguards Agreement. Evaluations regarding the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities for Iran remained ongoing,” said the IAEA report.

The new report, Najafi said, the ninth since the day the JCPOA came into force and the eighth quarterly report to the Board of Governors on verification of the JCPOA, once again proved Iran’s full adherence to the JCPOA.

He added that the latest report of the IAEA includes major issues including continuation of all Iran’s nuclear activities including keeping up enrichment at the rate of 3.67 percent with 30 cascades and 5060 first generation centrifuges in Natanz site, continuation of deploying six cascades of centrifuges IR-1 (numbering 1034 centrifuges) in a hall of Fordo site which are ready to go on stream as well as ten other centrifuges meant for research and development purposes to produce stable isotopes, pushing research and development programs with advanced and new generation centrifuges, continuation of producing parts of new generation centrifuges with fiber carbon, keeping up heavy water production in Arak facility (up to 114 tons), making arrangements for modernization of Khandab research heavy water reactor as well as Tehran research reactor.

Based on Iranian envoy’s statement, IAEA’s new report also referred to a letter by Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announcing Iran’s decision to design and build a small light water reactor (one kilowatt) for research purposes.

Najafi further noted that the UN body’s director general has also recalled his recent visit to Tehran and his talks with the Iranian officials.

Contents of the report are very similar to those of earlier ones and it changes include technical developments such as climbing of heavy water reserves, rate of increase on uranium enriched at 3.67 percent, replacement of certain centrifuges and similar cases, he said.

Najafi also said that Iran and other member states of the agency expected its secretariat to keep up with its professional and impartial job based on Safeguard standards and verification of JCPOA.

According to the statement of the Iranian envoy, the Board of Governors is to deal with various issues including the report during its two-day session on November 23-24.
