German FM warns US against quitting Iran nuclear deal

According to dispatches, Sigmar Gabriel welcomed also the United States' efforts to seek direct dialogue with North Korea and urged the US to do the same for Iran.

“This is exactly the right direction and a big, courageous step for the USA,” Gabriel said in a statement. “I very much wish that such an offer would now also be given to Iran. If the US quit the nuclear deal with Iran, that would undermine the credibility of its offer to North Korea.'

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Saturday that his country is “probing” ways to start a conversation with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un about the country’s nuclear tests.

“We ask, ‘Would you like to talk?’ We have lines of communications to Pyongyang — we’re not in a dark situation, a blackout,” Tillerson said, according to The New York Times.

North Korea has been progressing in its efforts to develop missile capabilities of reaching the US mainland. Trump has responded with increasing threats towards the country, which European leaders from countries like France and Germany have criticized.
