Gaza angry at Trump discriminatory act

According to Safa News Agency, ralliers gathered near UNRWA office in Gaza and called for keeping up aid for the refugees.

The US state department said on August 31 that it would no longer support the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which operates in the occupied territories as well as Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. It described the organization as “irredeemably flawed”.

The announcement sparked anger and concern, even though it had been widely anticipated. Critics see the move as part of a concerted plan to undermine core Palestinian demands in peace negotiations and say it could further destabilize the Middle East.

Spokesman of Palestine Liberation Organization Popular Committee Ziyad al-Sarfandi told the gathering, “We strongly condemn Donald Trump’s Deal of the Century announced when he recognized Quds as the Israeli capital.”

He urged the international community to double efforts for earmarking budget for offering services to Palestinian refugees.
UNRWA should continue providing services for the Palestinian refugees until a fair solution is worked out.

Created in December 1949, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is a relief and human development agency which supports more than 5 million registered Palestinian refugees, and their patrilineal descendants, who fled or were expelled from their homes during the 1948 Palestine war as well as those who fled or were expelled during and following the 1967 Six Day war.
