Explosive package defused in central Iran

The car bomb was parked near a mosque in a residential district in Najafabad city 29 km west of Isfahan. The site of the incident was immediately cordoned off, said a commander of the provincial Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Colonel Seifollah Rashidzaddeh said, the explosive package was later detonated in a non-residential area.

Had it exploded, it could have caused huge casualties, Rashidzadeh said.

The car bomb was initially discovered and reported to security forces by ordinary people.

According to IRGC Colonel Rashidzadeh, efforts are underway to identify those involved in the incident.
