EU to discuss its policies on Iran, JCPOA

This is EU’s foreign ministers’ second meeting after US withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal on May 8.

The previous meeting was held in Bulgaria after the meeting between European ministers with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in Brussels.

French foreign ministry also expressed its determination to preserve the interests of its companies and investors which have been affected by US sanctions.

Secretary General of European External Action Service Helga Schmid in a statement on May 25 said that members of the JCPOA reiterated their commitment to implement nuclear deal in good faith in a full, regular and effective manner.

Based on the statement, members of the JCPOA described lifting nuclear-related sanctions in a bid to normalize economic and trade ties with Iran as integral part of the nuclear deal.

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Washington would pull out of Iran nuclear deal and reinstate nuclear sanctions on Iran.

This is while most world powers including Russia, China, and European Union have repeatedly stressed that keeping the deal is in the interest of world peace and security.
