Following his meeting with Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi here on Saturday, Canete said the two sides held meeting to confirm continuation of European Commission and AEOI commitments to implement JCPOA, especially the three agreements related to peaceful nuclear cooperation.
'We believe continuation of implementation of JCPOA, which was achieved by consensus in Resolution 2231, is so vital for development and progress in the region and world peace and security, Canete said.
The EU commissioner said JCPOA resulted from one decade of multilateral successful diplomacy and indicated necessity for peaceful settlement of disputes and a key element in structure of world nuclear non-proliferation.
International Atomic Energy Agency have confirmed constantly in ten reports that Iran has implemented its nuclear obligations upon JCPOA and while Iran is committed to its obligations, Europe will continue to its commitments as well.
In this round of talks, the two sides reviewed progresses achieved since implementation of JCPOA so far, such as establishment of prompt communication in high levels between the European Commission (EC) and AEOI, which lead to issuing joint statement in April 2016 with theme to cooperate in nuclear energy field, Canete added.
The EC has created its nuclear research program for presence of Iranians, while measures for exchanging and reciprocal visits of nuclear scientists have been taken.
Canete added that the EC strongly supports Iran's effort to safe and responsible use of nuclear energy, including joining international conventions.
He said that upon close cooperation between Iran and Europe it is due that the third seminar in nuclear cooperation for high-ranking officials to be held in Brussels in late November 2018.
Canete underlined that the EC welcomes strengthening ties in all levels and development of these relations in upcoming months and years.
