Dutch measure politically motivated: FM

The Netherlands officials have announced that their measure for expelling of Iranian diplomats is not based on any evidence and the move was a mere political action, Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Monday.

According to a decision communicated to the Foreign Ministry, two of Dutch diplomats were expelled from Iran in reaction to illegal expelling of Iranian diplomats; in the meantime, Netherlands has recalled its ambassador to Tehran for consultations, the Iranian foreign minister said.

He added that the Foreign Ministry will pursue the case through its channels.

The Netherlands on Monday recalled its ambassador to Iran for consultations after diplomats at its embassy in Tehran were expelled, the country's Foreign Minister Stef Blok said, dispatches reported.

“The government has decided to recall the Dutch ambassador in Tehran for consultations,” Blok said in a statement. “This decision follows the announcement by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that two Dutch diplomats at the embassy in Tehran have been declared persona non grata and have to leave the country'.

The diplomats have already returned to the Netherlands, Blok said.

In a letter to parliament, Blok said the expulsion of Dutch staff from Tehran was in response to the earlier expulsion of two Iranian diplomats from the Netherlands in June 2018.
