Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman in a statement on Wednesday dismissed a US warning to Hong Kong over providing services to Iran’s oil tanker, describing it as illegal.
The statement pointed out that China’s energy deals with the countries, including Middle Eastern states, are totally legitimate and logical and should be respected.
China strongly opposes the US unilateral sanctions and will never bear such behaviors, the statement said.
It also added that Hong Kong abides by the UN sanctions, but it will not execute the sanctions which have been imposed unilaterally by the other countries.
Hong Kong dismissed US warnings that it could face penalties if it does business with an oil tanker headed for the city that allegedly violated sanctions on Iran.
