Baku to host Caspian Sea consultation meeting

Deputy foreign ministers of the Caspian Sea states will meet for consultations in Baku in the fall of this year, said Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov.

The deputies will discuss on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, TASS cited the Azerbaijani official as saying.

'As mandated by the heads of state, and according to the agreements formalized in the adopted documents, this meeting must take place not later than in six months. Moreover, we already have an agreement that in autumn of this year, the group will meet and begin work immediately. Tentatively, we are talking about a meeting in Azerbaijan,' Abdrakhmanov said.

At the 5th Caspian summit on Sunday (August 12), heads of the five Caspian Sea littoral states signed a convention on the sea in Kazakhstan's Aktau. Work on the document began in 1996.
