Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and his counterpart Reginah Mhaule were present at the 9th Political Committee of Islamic Republic of Iran and South Africa on Thursday, which was held in a very friendly and sincere atmosphere.
Among topics discussed by the two sides were latest developments pertaining to the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the EU special financial mechanism (INSTEX) to facilitate trade with Iran, as well as enhancement of cooperation between the two countries in the political and economic spheres.
The two parties also reviewed developments in bilateral and multilateral cooperation, arrangements for Iran President Hassan Rouhani's visit to South Africa, holding the 14th Joint Commission, due to be attended by foreign ministers, while examining at the same time new bilateral economic arrangements.
Araqchi met and conferred with the Speaker of the South African Parliament, Baleka Mbete, on Thursday.
During the visit, the Iranian top official conveyed the warm greetings of the Speaker of Iran's Parliament Ali Larijani and outlined the latest state of the JCPOA and INSTEX.
Cooperation between the two countries in the political and economic spheres was another issue discussed in the meeting.
Speaker of the South African Parliament, for his part, emphasized the importance of bilateral relations and emphasized the readiness of the country to expand its economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
