In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Hassan Montazer Torbati who is the head of the National Iranian Gas Company (IGC) said that based on previous agreements, Iran is currently increasing gas exports to a number of countries including Turkey, Iraq, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Gas industry had flourishing days in the past Iranian calendar year which ended on March 21, Torbati said.
Elaborating on the latest situation of the country’s gas exports, the NIGC chief said the amount of gas export to Turkey as Iran’s oldest customer stands at 10 billion cubic meters a year based on the 2001 agreement signed between the two countries which is valid for 25 years.
Iran’s gas export to Turkey took place according to the agreement, while Ankara has called for increase in its imports, the official said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he talked of Iran’s gas export to another neighboring state, Iraq, saying the two countries have signed two six-year agreements on gas export for two Iraqi cities of Baghdad and Basra.
Asked about gas export to Armenia, Torbati said Iran exports almost one million cubic meters of gas per day to Armenia and receives electricity in exchange.
Also, one million cubic meters of gas per day is being swapped to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from Astara in northern Iran, the official said, expressing hope that Tehran-Baku trade exchange would develop through other forms of trade.
Referring to the gas export project to Pakistan in southeastern Iran, the official said infrastructures of gas pipeline is already there in border but the export will start when the Pakistani side completes its own part of the project.
