'The level of trade and economic ties of Iran and Russia is not consistent with the present capacity; so, mutual cooperation should be expedited to move bilateral relations in the sector towards strategic position,' said Falahatpishe in a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Jagarian in Tehran on Tuesday.
He voiced pleasure with the growing improvement of relations between Iranian and Russian governments and parliaments and emphasized further dialogue among Iranian and Russian parliamentarians.
He went on to say that exchange of different delegates by Iranian and Russian parliaments indicates their interest in upgrading ties, which should be maintained by joint endeavors.
He then called for removal of the economic barriers and said Iranian Majlis' National Security and Foreign Policy Committee is ready to have monthly meetings with members of Russian Embassy in Tehran and also Russian traders and merchants to find solution to the existing problems.
He then said that volume of Russian goods destined to Iran and also Iranian goods heading for Russia are not in balance and majority of Russian ships berthing in Iranian ports return empty to the source position after offloading, while the requisite for strategic economic relations is balanced exports and imports and exchange of goods. On the other hand, balanced Iran-Russia trade be five times in favor of Russia, he added.
Falahatpishe referred to Iran-Russia successful cooperation in campaign against terrorism in Iraq and Syria, and said Iran-Russia success in fighting terrorism in the region, the two sides can have successful cooperation in reconstructing the countries and joint investment in the defined projects.
He then referred to importance of Caspian Sea in exchange of goods between Iran and Russia, and said stronger North-South Caspian Sea exchanges will favor the two countries.
Jagarian, for his turn, congratulated Falahatpishe on his chairing the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, and said parliamentary relations between the two countries are in a high level and in the period ahead, we welcome growth in relations between the two parliaments.
He then referred to Tehran-Moscow economic relations, and said Iran-Russia economic cooperation face barriers which have made it sluggish.
He urged elimination of barriers and expediting bilateral trade and economic relations.
Jagarian said cooperation among Iranian and Russian provinces plays an important role in promotion of bilateral economic relations and to this end, officials of Mazandaran Province and Russian Volgograd are in talks to have more cooperation.
On presence of Russia in Syria, he said Russia and Iran are in the country on demand by the legal government of Syria and as long as Syrian government has not announced otherwise, presence in Syria, consultation assistance and campaign against terrorism will continue.
