'Sanctions in the past couldn't influence the railroad ties between Iran and other countries, even European ones,' said Hossein Ashouri.
Ashouri said that the Iranian railroad system is among the few that is connected to the East and West and have always been cooperating with both.
'The agreements and cooperation between Iranian and Russian railroad companies have always been expanded.'
Saying that 'we are awaiting the connection of Iranian and Azerbaijani railroads' to connect in Astara, he added that earlier Indian goods were carried to Moscow, through Bandar Abbas-Qazvin-Astara route as a test, and de facto the south-north corridor inaugurated.
He added, 'In the joint projects of Iran and Russia in railroad system, both countries contractors work.
Ashouri also said that the contract to manufacture 6,000 cars was signed between Iranian and Russian private sectors, some parts of which will be made in Iran.
He said most of the cooperation between Iran and Russia focuses on goods transportation, but it is not limited to that. Some suggestions have been made to fund an international transportation company with cooperation of Russia and Iran.
Iran is to expand railroad cooperation to help the north-south corridor to connect China and India to Russia, Central Asia and Europe via Iran.
