Parliament: Gov't committed to execute IP project

Parliamentary Secretary Shahzadi Umarzadi told the House that the multilateral and unilateral sanctions on Iran had halted the progress of the project.

Responding to a question, Tiwana said that multilateral sanctions were imposed by the United Nations while the unilateral sanctions were imposed by the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and the European Union.

The project also came under discussion during the visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Pakistan in March 2016 where both sides agreed to resolve all outstanding issues.

Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq remarked that he had a discussion with the Iranian leadership on the issue and he would continue to do so in future as well.

Earlier ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost had said that his country had spent $ 2 billion to complete the gas pipeline close to Pakistani border, but they are waiting for the other side to complete its part of the project.

He said that the IP is a very important project that can completely change the face of Pakistan's economy.
