Norway eyeing enhanced economic ties with Iran

Tore Hattrem made the remarks in the ninth round of ‘Iran, Norway political consultations’ meeting headed by Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi.

During the meeting, both sides discussed major international developments as well as bilateral relations.

Expressing solidarity with the flood-impacted Iranian people, Hattrem said that his country’s cash and in kind aid packages will soon be dispatched to the affected areas in Iran.

Stressing Norway’s political resolve to maintain mutual cooperation, he hailed Iran’s stances in the face of the US bad promises and withdrawal from the JCPOA.

'Norway has always supported implementation of the deal along with the EU,' he added.

“Oslo still hopes that the JCPOA will survive to benefit Iran and help continue cooperation with other countries,” he said.

Araqchi, for his part, appreciated Norway’s positive stances in line with promoting mutual interaction and continued support to JCPOA, saying that JCPOA is an international accord and the US violated international regulations, including Resolution 2231 following exit from the deal.

“With its unilateral and illegal move, US showed that it does not understand language of respect and interaction and knows to speak only in the language of bullying,” Araqchi said.

EU should pay for keeping the JCPOA, or else it will survive, Araqchi said, noting that Iran has showed its maximum goodwill, cooperation and self-restraint, but it seems White House is pursuing other objectives.
