Reza Rahmani said at the opening ceremony of the Sixth Rab’e Rashidi Innovation and Technology Exhibition (RINOTEX 2018) in the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz on Thursday, “We are required to undertake greater effort to shore up domestic startups involved in production and distribution sectors.”
The expo will be open to visitors until November 4.
He said Iran’s Sixth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2016-21) stipulates an increase in the share of science and knowledge in the national economy.
“Today, we all know that in case we had pursued this goal more seriously earlier, we would have sustained fewer damages under the current unilateral US sanctions [and those which are to kick in on November 4].”
He described Iran’s elite youths as the country’s main means for making progress based on knowledge, underlining the need for their presence in diverse domestic scientific sectors.
Rahmani said the Fourth Industrial Revolution — characterized by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres, collectively referred to as cyber-physical systems — and its requirements, such as the Internet, will transform the objects of life, warning that “in case we fail to speed up our efforts, we will face problems in all areas”.
Two wings of innovation and knowledge are required for any industry to grow and prosper, he added.
Thus, the minister said, providing domestic NTBFs with fundamental support is “among our essential responsibilities”.
He noted that the global economy is moving from a natural-resource-based economy to a knowledge-based economy.
“We are required to strive hard not to lag behind the global economy.”
Consultations with domestic private sector is among the important measures to this end, he said, adding, “We are required to consult those involved in domestic industrial sector and experts of Iranian NTBFs to be able to, through hard work and the use of all facilities, make use of the opportunities opening up under the country’s new circumstances.”
