Largest wind farm opens in NW Iran

'Renewable energies power plants have found their proper place in the country and have been well developed,' said Ardakanian during the inaugural ceremony.

Siahpoosh region locates 120 km from the provincial capital city of Qazvin in the Tarom Sofla district.

The 61-megawatt wind farm is built with the latest modern technologies and in a 17-hectare area during one year.

It was made by a budget of €86m and has 18 wind turbines.

The advantage of the power plant is to prevent spreading a massive amount of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Ardakanian said that Iran generates 640 megawatts of electricity by renewable energy power plants, 45% of which is produced in wind farms.

He added that making power plants to generate 450 megawatts of electricity by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (finishing on March 20) is on the agenda of his ministry.
