Iran's drought unprecedented in 70 years

Ali-Morad Akbari made the remarks speaking to reporters, urging the need for managing water consumption.

Zayandeh Rood River basin as well as the provinces of Fars, Hormuzgan, Sistan-Baluchestan and Bushehr have the worst conditions in the country in regard to receiving rainfalls, Akbari said.

One of the ways to strengthen the country in the face of drought and shortage of water is using modern irrigation systems, the official added.

He said that President Rouhani's government has well understood the challenges of water and has made more investments in this area compared to the previous governments.

Management of water consumption and unemployment are two main challenges facing the country that can cause many troubles if not properly dealt with, Akbari said.
