Iran uses e-TIR on border with Azerbaijan

Seyed Hassan Rahimzadeh told the Europe-Asia-Oceana Transit Seminar, sponsored by the World Customs Organization in its European regional office in Baku, that after Turkey, Azerbaijan is the second country with which Iran has initiated such a system.

Rahimzadeh said the Pakistani partners have also asked for such a system to facilitate transit.

Iranian and Azerbaijani customs have recently come to an agreement on the e-TIR customs cooperation.

Mutual consent was given to the introduction of a digital version of TIR on routes between these countries. In addition, further plans are to extend the digital passes to the entire International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), which connects India, Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia and Central Asia.

As announced by the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the transition to fully digital service of TIR carnets is to provide both the authorities and transport companies with real-time access to data and the ability to monitor them online. As a result, data can be sent directly to the target border crossing points before the truck reaches the checkpoints. This will improve the traffic flow of the check-in process.

Iran is a successful country in terms of well introducing the digitized TIR carnet system for trade overseas and customs cooperation with the neighbors.

The digitized TIR carnet system provides faster, simpler, safer and without unnecessary bureaucracy customs procedure.

Digital TIR carnets are part of a larger eTIR project. Its main purpose is to create a fully digital and harmonized system, so that identical information is available in all customs offices through appropriate IT programs.
