Iran: Tourism important in developing Tehran-Beijin ties

Tehran, June 3, IRNA - Tehran and Beijing can develop cooperation in many areas of which tourism is an important sector, observed a representative of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicraft and Tourism Organization in the Chinese port city of Shanghai on Saturday.

Hossein Khalifi told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that Iran, as a hospitable country, has long been welcoming Chinese guests and the two countries are long-standing friends.

Turning to the Silk Road, he said the ancient route, which connected China to Iran, had also been a route for promoting tourism, and two countries have kept up the spirit of this friendship from the past.

The Silk Road, as an ancient network of trade routes, had been central to cultural interactions through regions of Asia connecting West and East.

The official added that the Silk Road is a trade, cultural and tourism route linking the Iranian and Chinese nations.

He further called on the Chinese academics and members of cultural societies to get more familiar about Iran.

On security in Iran, the official said Iran is the most stable and secure country in the Middle East and the current regional developments cannot harm the country's security.

Statistics show that about 120,000 Iranians visited China in 2017 while 95,000 Chinese nationals traveled to Iran in the same year.
