The incumbent Iranian Ambassador Mojtaba Damirchilou in a recent meeting with Kazakh Prime Minister Bakhytzhan Sagintayev said, 'Turnover of trade between Tehran and Astana by June 2018 has experienced a 70-percent increase.'
The two officials during the meeting discussed various issues, including the development of cooperation in all fields, with a focus on trade, economy, investment, industry and transit of goods between the Iran and Kazakhstan.
The prospect of cooperation on agriculture and underground sediments were also discussed in the meeting.
Damirchilou, who is going to be replaced by Majid Samadzadeh, said Kazakhstan is a pioneer in Eurasia region, and therefore, is considered as an important country by Iran in terms of trade.
Iran-Kazakhstan relations have entered a new stage in recent years, with transportation at the center of the ties.
Inauguration of trilateral railway between Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan, establishing shipping lines between the two countries' ports and increasing the number of flights between the two capitals are among the latest developments.
The two countries are also cooperating in regional and international organizations such as the Organization Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and Asian and international parliamentary bodies.
Kazakhstan is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and has taken policies in line with Iran on international issues such as Syria.
