Iran, Iraq consider ways to bolster cooperation in electricity, energy

Al-Fahadawi appreciated Iran for providing some part of Iraq needed electricity and expressed the hope that visit of first Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri to Baghdad on Wednesday to be fruitful.

He said that his country intends to promote bilateral ties between the two countries in all fields.

Shariatmadari pointed to 80 percent of Iran electricity generated in ordinary methods and 10 percent through hydro-energy and 10 percent other through solar and wind energy.

He added that Iran has signed agreements with companies from 160 different countries in the world to provide electricity upon the most modern technologies.

The Iranian minister said to connect electricity transmission lines between Iran, Iraq and Syria as a network, 'we are planning now'.

Iran is supplying parts of Iraq electricity for past several years and this caused electricity crisis to be reduced in some cities, especially neighboring cities of Iran.

Shariatmadari and the accompanying delegation arrived in Baghdad on Monday and he had meetings with Iraqi minister of planning, minister of industry and mine, minister of housing and urban development.

Visit is at the invitation of Iraqi Minister of Planning and acting minister of Trade Salman al-Jumaili.
