Iran, Georgia trade exchange up 50% in 2 yrs

The trade exchange rose from $ 83 million to $ 131 million, Minister of Cooperative, Labor and Social Welfare Ali Rabie said.

Rabie also serves as head of Iran-Georgia sixth joint economic commission.

He pointed to problems in both countries' cooperation, saying that 12,000 trucks are travelling between the two countries annually which had some problems due to the procedures of getting permits but now the two sides have made decisions so that Iranian trucks will travel to Georgia without needing to get permits.

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has expressed interest to address the issue of financial and monetary exchanges between the two countries, Rabie said.

Kvirikashvili also suggested that Iranian banks open branches in Georgia, he added.

During the meeting, both sides expressed readiness to establish cooperation in energy, transportation and joint projects fields.

Iran-Georgia sixth joint economic commission is underway in Tbilisi, Georgia.
