Iran central bank chief in Iraq to work out banking issues

Abdolnaser Hemmati was received by his Iraqi counterpart Ali Mohsen Ismail al-Alaq as he arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday evening.

'My objective to visit the friendly and fraternal country of Iraq with which we have good political, economic and trade relations, is to hold talks with authorities about the latest status of our cooperation,' Hemmati told the correspondent of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on his arrival to the Iraqi capital.

Iran's financial chief praised 'considerable' Iranian public and private sector exports to Iraq. But, he acknowledged 'shortcomings in banking and monetary consultations', saying Iranian exporters have been facing several problems in getting their money back.

He is expected to hold talks with Iraqi Finance Minister Fuad Hussein, Iraqi president and prime minister as well as Iranian and Iraqi businessmen and women in a bid to find pathways to resolve banking issues.
