Indonesia, 11th trade partner of Iran: Envoy

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 73rd anniversary of Indonesia's independence, Alimudin said both Iran and Indonesia supported each other in the international circles.

He cited Iran's backing of Indonesia's nomination for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council in 2019 and 2020 and Jakarta's support for implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers and for the Islamic Republic's membership of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Referring to the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed by the two countries over the past year, he said the meetings held between the political, parliamentary and military officials of the two countries indicated the serious will of Tehran and Jakarta to strengthen mutual ties.

Pointing to the 2018 Asian Games which kicked off in Indonesia Saturday, he said 18,000 athletes from 45 countries including Iran are participating in the Asian Games.

A number of Tehran-based ambassadors and diplomats were present in the ceremony.
