The Tehran meeting will help draw legal framework for implementation of Chabahar agreement, Thiero Morti said at the first meeting of Coordination Council of Agreement on the Establishment of an International Transport and Transit Corridor among the Governments of Iran, Afghanistan and India is underway in the Iranian capital.
India has already provided a draft of that framework and will send it to Iran and Afghanistan through diplomatic channel, Morti added.
Talking about Chabahar-Zahedan-Mashad railroad project, Morti said New Delhi is eagerly looking forward to seeing the railway reaching Herat in Afghanistan, so that the transit activities in the three countries will be improved.
Promotion of this international railroad project this way will also play an effective role in bringing sustainable development in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan where the important Chabahar Port is located, the Indian official said.
Also, she added, completion of the project will create good opportunities for transit of goods and transfer of passengers in the region.
India should make use of those opportunities to strengthen trade exchange with Iran and Afghanistan, she said.
New Delhi, as she said, has proposed forming committees on Chabahar agreement within next two months to follow up implementation of the deal.
Indian government is fully committed to Chabahar agreement and hopes it will be completely implemented by the three countries, Morti added.
Opening of the first phase of Chabahar Port on eastern Iran provides the loading and unloading capacity to eight million from 2.5 million a year.
