India to invest $85m in Chabahar

The investment will be made by IPGL company of India, Mohammad Rastad said a meeting of deputies of the ministry of roads and urban development at the governorate of Chabahar.

Chabahar Port is a seaport in Chabahar located in southeastern Iran, on the Gulf of Oman. It serves as Iran's only oceanic port, and consists of two separate ports named Shahid Kalantari and Shahid Beheshti, each of which has five berths. It is located 645 kilometers from Zahedan, capital of the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

Rastad, also managing director of Ports and Maritime Organization, said currently the Chabahar port is unable to handle such a high volume of goods transport and transit. The loading and off-loading capacity of Shahid Beheshti port will rise to 77 million tons after completion of its triple development project.

Quick completion of Chabahar-Zahedan railway project is the most important need of the port city, Rastad said.

He said four investment documents totally worth 183 billion tomans were signed in the port city Thursday for building oil and LPG storage tanks, collection of ships waste materials and constriction of multipurpose warehouses.

A 150-million-dollar memorandum of understanding on setting up a refinery was also signed Thursday, he said.
