IMO chief lauds Iran role in fighting piracy

'We appreciate very much the Iranian government's efforts in tackling piracy issue in the region,' Secretary-General of the IMO Kitack Lim said in an interview with Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

He also referred to the Iranian navy's role in helping and guiding other countries' navies and noted that Iran has contributed to IMO work a lot.

IMO chief referred to the IMO's Integrated Technical Cooperation Program (ITCP) and noted that it can help Iran and other developing countries to be provided with technical assistance programs.

The official also hailed the solidarity among Iranian people for building a better future for their country, noting that Iran enjoys a great maritime heritage.
