Germany to support firms doing business with Iran: Minister

He said that his country will assist the German companies that are active in Iran and are willing to continue their business in the country.

The comments come as the US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced Washington's withdrawal from the deal with Iran.

“We are ready to talk to all the companies concerned about what we can do to minimize the negative consequences,” Altmaier said, according to a report by Reuters.

“At the moment, there is no reason to change the valued Hermes scheme,” Altmaier told Deutschlandfunk radio. “We are just starting a conversation about what the economic implications are, and how we can avoid negative consequences for jobs in Germany.”

The nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was signed by Iran and the major world powers in 2015. Under the deal Iran agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief.

The other signatories to the deal—UK, France, Russia, China and Germany—have said that they will continue to enforce the deal.
