Foreign tourists visiting Iran increases by 51%

Ali Asghar Monesan said Wednesday that a total of 5,100,000 foreign tourists arrived in the country last year, and if this year's trend continues, it will reach to about seven million foreign tourists.

He added that the forex rate difference for different sectors created problems, but had a positive impact on the export and arrival of the tourists, which made travel packages to be extremely inexpensive.

Monesan stated, 'Given America's actions against the Islamic Republic, all the departments were required to consider measures that would bring the least damage to the various sectors. Thus, in the area of tourism, although we were faced with a decline in European tourist arrivals, with the arrangements we made, in the regional tourist area we have growth on arrival of tourists.'

'Regional tourist enters our country more in the area of health tourism, which is more expensive than European tourists,' he added.

The head of the Cultural Heritage Organization also said that in the handicrafts sector, 'we exported $ 500 million last year of which $ 250 million from customs and $ 250 million in luggage and souvenirs, and we are trying to reach $ 2 billion this year.'
