Crimea mulling cooperation with Iran: Russian official

In an interview with the Russian daily Izvestia, Crimean Deputy Prime Minister Georgy Muradov added that currently, the issue of creating a route through Volga-Don Canal is being considered which will connect Crimea ports to Iranian Caspian coastlines.

He also said that a number of Iranian merchants have voiced readiness for trade with Crimea ports through Volga-Don Canal.

Parallel to sea links, rail and road connections will also be established between Iran and Crimea, he said, noting that the inauguration of a bridge between Crimea and Russia has paved the way for materializing that goal.

Inauguration of railway from Crimea to Russia will help ease trade and Crimea will be connected to northern Caucasus, Azerbaijan Republic and Iran via rail, he said.

Crimea is a peninsula on the northern coast of the Black Sea in Eastern Europe that is almost completely surrounded by both the Black Sea and the smaller Sea of Azov to the northeast.
